the problem is that the event control system still has a few problems and needs to be checked anyway - the sometimes stopping UFOs in the galactic war are caused by this and a few more problems with scripted events.
If the code would work as intended the change wouldn't be a problem, but first we have to get the event system fixed... |

You could handle underwater situations easily...
1) assume X-Force can beam troops into submerged alien ships.
2) all weapons and tech would work for non flooded compartments of alien ships.
AND - there could even be an alien base under the sea that could be invaded. :) |

Not beaming, but diving bells, and later a kinda aquatic "drop pod".
It would only apply to the bigger ships you face later, smaller ones would break up too easily.
So, in order to access ships underwater you would need to research a cutting technology to get into the ships from the bell as well as a craft to carry the drop pod/bell. (or a mod to an existing craft).
Personally, I think these missions could be done really well.
Because its still in oxygenated areas, you wouldnt need new weapons or sprites.
*however* you could have some areas with some water, or leaks. Possibly a time (turn) limit?
Maybe if you do too much of an impact on a wall you weaken the structure and have to get out fast?
Maybe gas/myst in areas makes aiming harder?
I'm sure underwater missions could add slight variance too the games combat. |
