Hi everyone,

Firstly, our congradulations to a GREAT game in the making!

Have a few newbie questions, which is preventing me from further progressing:

1. I'm having serious trouble with the Transport_UFO battles.
in ground battles (up to 25 aliens vs. my 12 troops),
the X-Force game always gets stuck at the end of Round 1 (Alien's hidden movement phase). even after a few hours of letting computer move, it's still stuck!

How do i progress from there?


2. If i avoid this ground battle after the Transport_UFO has been downed, will my nearby cities get infiltrated by aliens? (the ground battle mission disappears after a long time if i avoid it).


3. any tips on how to fight toe-to-toe with aliens?
i'm getting slaughtered by the aliens, even with their Fusion Pistol vs. my assault machine guns.

the end of Round 1


Its a known bug. I think it could be caused by an alien want to move in a certain direction, but there stands another alien and no room for movement.
This would be at the borders of the map on one side of the alien and a fence at the other side of the alien.

Alien 1 has timeunits left and cannot move because its to stupid to turn :D (possible also in room and aliens want to go outside for fresh air, I think)
Turn never ends, you have to start again. :(


If you see somtehing like this (or another possible reason) please email to Jim_raynor-at-web.de with a screenshot.
I´m also new here and I have this situation seen once, so he told me to send him a screenshot. (But since that never get this situation again)

2. I think no infiltration, there is a special news if a UFO infiltrates a town. (I had it 2 times)
There can also be "unvisible" (out of sensor range) UFOs infiltrating a city. You see this in your points.


3. beam :D
Grenades and Mines (aliens go after you, so retreat and BOOOM!) Always a good trick is to beam down next to the aliens, lay a mine and beam up. next turn (if one of your soldiers is on the map and has hit a alien with a weapon) enjoy watching! (with a scanner a little distance away ;) )
(but because this can be used to win without any problems, the beam will be deleted. I have eliminated 27 aliens two days ago with 5 mines, 4 grenades a little beaming. 6 soldiers landed, no one wounded.)


If you don´t want groundbattles: Shoot down the UFOs above water. To reach this, launch your ship and when the UFO follows you, fly back to base or to a town (right mouse button) and with a good timing you can get them above water.

forgotten: Aliens have a certain range to see something (as your soldiers)
shoot them from far away. You will not hit them often, but they don´t shoot back. And if they shoot, well, you hopefully have soldiers with big guns, good aiming and lots of hitpoints ;)

1. Hmm... couldn't report this (known) bug at http://bugs.xforce-online.de because it was all in German... anyways, guess X-Force developers are working on this bug...

2. Re: ground fighting.

It's either way too easy or way too hard... in my humble opinion, needs some serious fight modelling work:

2a) How do you throw a grenade to kill Alien soldiers/troopers espcially on ? they shoot back at you before the grenade explodes, making it a suicide endeavour (the same thing happens if you try to shoot them with guns).

2b) Laying a landmine circle around aliens is a brilliant idea... never thought of that...

2c) By the way, You can use a dagger on those T.Scientists (from the Research/Observer UFOs) for the first half an hour (until the Hunters with Soldiers/Troopers arrive) and you don't need a single bullet or landmine!!


***All above (a), (b), & (c) is indicating that this system of teleporting solidiers and instant sensor view of aliens is too unbalancing.

perhaps some suggestions on this to improve ground combat:

1a) force *all* units to must teleport into game grid at the beginning of each Round, and *before* any units can move.
1b) only 1 teleport move per trooper per round.
ie: don't let trooper teleport beside Alien, throw a grenade, then teleport away.

1b) add a minimum distance from an alien that you can beam a trooper (ie: minimum 3 squares away), AND it's a used teleport/time unit expended if player fails to teleport trooper down, due to this reason of minimum teleport distance.


2) perhaps make the sensors like the "Alien (TM)" movie: motion sensors that show red dots of *Approximate* alien location (plus or minus a few squares in radius, the accuracy depending on the type of Advanced sensor), and the sensor scans *do not* show the game map? (ie: Alien can be in inside building).
This would prevent players teleporting soldiers right beside the Alien.


3) Big playing balancing problem: your Troopers get killed too easily when fighting toe to toe with Aliens using guns.
If you don't use Dagger/Grenade/LandMine/Teleport, then the ground combat is Way too difficult.
Even with same equipment/armor for your troopers vs. Alien soldiers, generally you get one of your soldiers killed trying to kill one of those Alien soldiers.


anyways, GREAT game...

(i found X-Force because i was looking for a re-make of this game: X-COM: Apoloclypse that i really miss)

I think you can wrote this in english too.

thats right, but you can use a rocket launcher orand a good armoring.

If Aliens would react on your use of timeunits (if they see you) in your turn this would solve all the dagger/mine problems with "go to them, say hello, drop a mine und walk away"
There is a good use for reaction and the ms from the weapons I ask for yesterday.

Alien: sees soldier
reaction
ms for aiming or whatever
timeunits for shooting (back)

No one thought of that??? (not like in UFO, go one field and two shoot at you- always hated this)

two grenades or more at one time, if they die instantly, they don´t shoot back. Grenades cumulate.

? In the latest version is only turnbased...

1. Your soldier must have 2 grenades :D
2. klick icon "grenade" where your soldier carries his weapon, klick on map and number 1 is on its way
3. fast: second "grenade" icon, throw and BOOM
where is the problem???
